Knowlton Nash, a decorated Canadian journalist who went from selling newspapers as a boy in Toronto to serving a decade as anchor of CBC's The National, has died at age 86.
"xerxes" said I grew up watching the news with him. RIP
Most Canadian song line ever: "Running from the crack of dawn till Knowlton reads the news." Stan Rogers
How many here thought 'The National' was about Knowlton when they were kids?
He interviewed Che Guevara after the Cuban revolution.
He was the only reporter allowed in to Cuba during the missile crisis.
He was a regular in Bobby Kennedy's household, and regretted that relationship because he thought it made him less objective after Bobby's assassination.
He was good friends with Peter Jennings who anchors news in the US, as both their fathers used to work anchor at CBC in the 30's.
Having just his glasses on the Anchor desk was kind of surreal. Knowltons Glasses.jpg
Thanks for the memories.
I grew up watching the news with him. RIP
Back in the day he WAS the news....RIP

I thought that very line when this thread first popped up. RIP to both of them. Knowlton and Stan Roger were both icons of a generation.
