What makes Heikki Karn's axe better? Everything, he says. Stone Age man created this axe that we get today from the hardware store. Its still the same tool, with the same difficulties.

I would never use it. I could see the torque leading to long-term wrist injuries.

I doubt it would increase injuries considering the inherent nature of the task. I like the tire thing which I've never seen before.

I saw that video last week sometime. The axe does seem pretty easy to use, and I like that tire thing too.

But expensive! It's more than I've paid for some ice climbing axes!

It does seem easy to use and I bet the wood was optimal for splitting making it look even better. Looked really good when taking down the sides, which may be because of it's design to roll to one side.
I bet it's much more than the regular axe although except for the handle, they do last forever. See the cheap prices of log splitters these days most people probably don't use an axe to split much wood anymore.

Too dangerous, must wear glasses, must be done with metal of highest quality. Only in this case it's possible to use.

Isn't that one of those things that make you slap your head and go,

"why the fuck didn't I think of that !".

230 Euros, 300 dollars. Before tax.

holy fuck me.. and he is out of stock !
That is a lot of money for an axe....

The base price is 193.12 in EU countries, including VAT. For US orders, the base price is 155.74 or about $215, plus 47.26 ($65) in shipping.

~$240 is more than I spent on ice axes, and my life depended on them! Chopping wood, not so much plummeting and falling to my doom. And yea, that Finnish Birch if properly seasoned is legendary. :)

When you said expensive I thought $100-150. You can get a log splitter from Canadian Tire starting at $400.
