A Whitehorse family got a little wild surprise this week when it turned out the abandoned puppy they rescued wasn't a puppy at all but most likely a fox.

It's still going to make an amazing pet.

I have a friend with a Fennec fox as a pet. It's like having both a dog and a cat in one package. ;)

(this is not his fox, but you get the idea)

I'm honestly surprised foxes haven't been domesticated more.

I too am surprised they aren't more widespread. The Russian scientists who started the Silver Fox experiment found the foxes after 2 generations craved human affection. You can still get them as pets 50 years after the experiment, as they are a domesticated breed now.

But then again, constant attention to a pet comes at a cost. That's one reason I like cats. 10 minutes of brushing and some begging for cheese, and she leaves me alone for 12 hours.

A sack of fishing worms would make a better pet than a cat!

So... who wants to die first?
One of these days when you are least expecting it, I will kill you with kindness. It will be long, and slow, and you may not even notice it's happening until it's too late. 8)

I forget who it was but one of our members recently posted a picture of a fox eating from their hand. Seems to me these critters would probably be okay to have around if they want to hang around with us...not much different from cats, really.
