In Dearborn, Mich., home to over 40,000 Americans of Arab descent, some Muslim parents have complained about flyers handed out at public schools advertising an Easter egg hunt at a local Presbyterian church.

Ok, so the gathering of chocolate is BAD! No longer PC! Add it to the list pronto!

God forbid that children have fun... oh... wait a minute... hmmmmm...

Kids typically tend to associate Easter eggs with candy and people in rabbit costumes.

    Eggsactly!

Given that Islam had a complete lack of humour or any sense of fun in it, it'd probably be the perfect religion for Andy to join. :P

I say suck it up, it's kids collecting chocolate FFS.

I don't think they'd like it very much if others started bitching about Eid or Ramadan.

Welcome to North America. One might get inflicted by the mention of Easter. That is unfortunate.

Right, I'm sure his 7 year old came home all bent out of shape over the separation of church and state like he says he did. Dad needs to get a hobby for his spare time. I suggest some world religions studies which would tell him that an Easter egg hunt is not religious at all and any church advertising the Easter Bunny as the reason for the season to get people in the doors is only a threat to Christianity.

I don't have problems with kids being advertised about an easter egg hunt; as discussed above, its become a pretty secular activity regardless of recent christian adaptation (much of the 'holiday' dates back to pagan times).

I do however have concerns about any church, mosque, synagogue, temple, business, etc. advertising or promoting their events in schools. I don't think schools should be in the captive advertising business.

Really. People decided it would just be fun to hide and hunt eggs? The word easter has a secular origin?

For Christians, the Easter egg is symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Painting Easter eggs is an especially beloved tradition in the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic churches where the eggs are dyed red to represent the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the cross. Easter eggs are blessed by the priest at the end of the Paschal vigil and distributed to the congregants. The hard shell of the egg represents the sealed Tomb of Christ, and cracking the shell represents Jesus' resurrection from the dead. Moreover, historically Christians would abstain from eating eggs and meat during Lent, and Easter was the first chance to eat eggs after a long period of abstinence. (Orthodox Christians continue to abstain from eggs during Lent.)

Easter eggs like the Christmas tree predate the holidays they were incorporated into. Even the word Easter is derived from an old pagan goddess of the dawn

It's an easter egg hunt, not the Passion of St. Matthew.

    ... a grip, please.

I wonder how the Christian parents would react if an Iranian Mosque sent flyers to the school inviting kids to paint eggs for Nowruz?
