    Well, as nice it would be to bust all those people curtrently stealing artists' material for free right now, I think it is way too broadly worded to have a hope of getting through. Of course, we are talking about the Harper Conservatives, so you never know. ha ha ha.

    The proposed law would exempt programs from seeking the computer users permission to install software for:

    a program that is installed by or on behalf of a person to prevent, detect, investigate, or terminate activities that the person reasonably believes (i) present a risk or threatens the security, privacy, or unauthorized or fraudulent use, of a computer system, telecommunications facility, or network, or (ii) involves the contravention of any law of Canada, of a province or municipality of Canada or of a foreign state;

    I don't see how you could pass a law that, by reference, requires conformance with all foreign laws.

    I have a feeling hat the days of people stealing songs and movies wiht impunity are just about done though, regardless. Great news for artists.

    Spyware Search&Destroy will be scanning 24-7 on my computer. I get frustrated enough with software like EA's Origin and Games for Windows Live being complete shit, I don't need every corporation trying to quietly install spyware (which, if it's terminating and preventing programs on my PC, sounds just as much like a virus) on my PC. Good odds they'll be used by proper hackers to steal information or infect my computer because, no doubt, they'll fuck up their coding and leave some backdoor which hackers will figure out. Oh, and once it happens (and it will happen), let's watch said corporation not being responsible for the damage and the mess I need to fix and clean up on my goddamn computer.

    In other words: Don't fucking break into my computer to check to see if I might have infringed on your copyright. I perfectly accept copyright laws, but don't think I'll roll over and accept such bullshit when said companies try to violate my privacy and property.

    If this passes I just won't buy software or music from Canada is all.
