When police in suburban Washington raided the home of a suspected drug dealer last fall, they found the cocaine, all right, but also something unusual on the man's shelves: nearly 20 large bottles of liquid Tide laundry detergent.

    That's just odd.

I could sort of see razor blades, but how much Tide can you steal and how much dope does that buy you?

Not a lot I am assuming, you'd think it would be one of the harder things to steal. I wonder if condoms or tampons make the back market list of must haves?

Yes, definitely a weird item to barter with.

Indeed. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Marketing gimmick.

    Actually... that's a good point.

At least this way nobody can call them dirty drug addicts anymore. If they're smart, they'll do what any good dealer does and cut the Tide with something cheaper to get more product. Heck, just find used Tide bottles and fill them with something soapy and they're good to go.

"Smells like Tide, tastes like Tide, better wash with it to be sure" (Apologies to the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers)

Tide is $30 a box at Costco right now so this is not far off the track.

Considering it is both not very portable and has a bright, very visible colour.
I would be reluctant to go with Marketing ploy but it seems just as reasonable.
