The incident comes after weeks of tense relations between U.S. forces and their Afghan hosts following the burning of Qur'ans and other religious materials at an American base. Though U.S. officials apologized and said the burning was an accident, the incident sparked violent protests and attacks that killed about 30 people.

Six U.S. troops have been killed in attacks by their supposed Afghan colleagues since the Qur'an burnings came to light.

Sounds like someone snapped and went off the deep end

Interesting, I wondered about this as I listened to the news this morning,

When an Afghan civilian kills a bunch of soldiers, he's a terrorist

When a soldier kills a bunch of Afghan civilians, it's probably because he snapped.

I don't doubt the the guy likely did snap,I would hope so because he just killed nine children, but it reveals how quickly the west is to judge why Afghan civilians kill troops. Who says something hadn't caused them to snap as well?

No, the soldier is a terrorist, and will get what's coming to him soon.

never white washed his actions as you seem to insinuate. He's no different than someone who goes into a school and starts slashing kids, goes into the Tomb of the Patriarchs and kills worshippers, a math genius who blows up people using the postal service or the servicemen who murdered Rabin, Ghandi and the innocents in My Lai. they all committed acts of terror. However, that being said, the report seems to be linking his actions to the murder of his fellow servicemen. Soldiers who were murdered by their allies... people who 'snapped' over a book being destroyed by mistake.

Yes the U.S Military Justice system will prosecute and convict this Soldier faster than a civillian court would..

I guess saying "my bad" won't help the situation for this guy?

This "soldier" should never again see the light of day as a free man. His selfish actions jeopardized not only his fellow soldiers, but any foreigner in Afghanistan. Not to mention handing the Taliban the gift of negative propaganda against the allies.

perhaps he should be handed over to the local authorities? This wasn't a combat operation...it was cold blooded murder.

    Karazai called the attack
"an assassination" and demanded an explanation from the United States.

How the hell can they explain this? One of the dumber things he's said. It's like demanding he explain why allied servicemen have been murdered by Afghan soldiers and police. they were the actions of individuals, not state sanctioned operations. Maybe he should rethink his statements, because chances are, he'll be seeking asylum in the US once they pull out. That is, if other taliban factions don't get him first.

This guy is a disgrace and deserves the full penalty of US military in war justice. Capital or not. Killing civilians, what a piece of shit.

That aside, its going to be one poisonous relationship now. Afghan Army/Police have been killing colleagues in the US/UK/French/NATO/Auzzie ranks for some time now.

The political sales-guys have told us meekly that these were rogue actions and not reflective of our Afghan allies.
    Bollocks.

They hate us and we now hate them. Allies my arse.

The military justice system hasn't had any trouble prosecuting Nidal Hasan.

A terrorist is politically motivated. A soldier snapping and killing a bunch of people is a serial killer.

The media has stated this all morning. Don't get your feelings hurt or look for insinuations when they aren't there.
