Watched it on line. I missed all the great 3D and sound but I figure the technology will show up again and maybe this time it will have better writters.

Looked like they stole the whole story from this one:

Just saw it this afternoon. My wife and I agreed on two things about the movie:

    1. It was visually stunning.(A+)
    2. The story was predictable and preachy.(C-)

Not hardley. James Cameron had the idea on paper before Titanic or the Terminator.

BTW, James Cameron was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada, on August 16, 1954. Yup, a Canadian.

Whether or not you like the content, the special effects are stunning and world changing, in the same way Star Wars, Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park were.

Most movies are derivative of something else previous (Tarantino for example is famous for ripping off 70s Japanese movies), but no matter how you slice it, this movie is unbelievable.

Frankly, I'd rank it as one of the best sci-fi movies of all time.

Hollywood is full of Canadians, the Pixar film coming our next year "how to train your dragon" is co-directed by a dude I went to school & partied with, Dean Deblois. Very talented lad. He wrote and directed Lilo & Stich as well, it got a Grammy nomination.

From the preview I was able to discern the whole plot. Seems like its worth seeing in IMAX just for the eye candy.

It's amazing from a visual perspective. Cameron did an excellent job envisioning an alien ecology, but the end of the movie sort of came off as one of Brasco's wet dreams.

Yeah the visuals were stunning, however the story is recycled. We have the evil corporation (Aliens) using mechanical soldiers (Terminator/Mechwarrior/Matrix) to oust a native people from their land where one of them decides to change sides and help the natives (Dancing With Wolves). I don't think Avatar has the legs to try and break the top three of all time. With Christmas holidays approaching, Sherlock Holmes coming out at the end of the week, and a weak story I don't think people are going to go back and see this movie multiple times like they did with Titanic.

I read one review of people feeling queezy or fatigued because of the shifting depth of focus. Did anyone notice that?

I don't question the effects will be spectacular and I'm betting that will become a new standard.

I had no problems with vertigo or anything similar. This wasn't Cloverfield. The only problem I had was that the effects went by too quick to really enjoy them all.

I plan on seeing it several more times. I agree that it was a little predictable, but really what movie isn't? Based on the technical merits, this is an amazing movie. Its already made $285,000,000 in just 4 days worldwide. Amazing.
