Canada's defence minister says the process of electing Afghan president Hamid Karzai, while flawed, produced a result that was important for stabilizing the country in advance of Canada's troop withdrawal.

Only the elected government of Afghanistan can resolve their peoples problem, not the religious fanatics from other countries. Karzai isn't perfect but he's a couple centuries ahead of the taliban.
