The head of Canada's military mission in Afghanistan said Tuesday he expects to see an escalation in violence in the war-torn country over the next year.

    Hopefully they can get a lot done in the winter months, it tends be the "off season" for the Taliban.
    The Gen. is most likely right though, with the slumping world economy and the price of food rising in the developing world, people are going to turn to the Taliban as a means to make money for their family. The Afghani government already has trouble paying the ANA and ANP so, the ANP will likely become more corrupt and, if whytheferret is right about what he saw in his tour earlier this year, more ANA will dissert and could even join the Taliban.
