Why should we be different than anybody else?

We need to get junk food out of children's daily life. If a parent told you that they fed their kid birthday cake for breakfast every morning, you'd call child services or definitely say to yourself "someone should do something about that". Yet the Honey Smacks, Golden Crisp (formerly called 'sugar crisp')and their kind of cereals have more sugar per serving than a Hostess Twinkie! Honey Smacks is 56% sugar!! These children's cereals should be banned and parents who feed these regularly to their kids should be charged with neglect.
This is just the top 10, based on percent sugar by weight
1 Kellogg's Honey Smacks 55.6% 2 Post Golden Crisp 51.9% 3 Kellogg's Froot Loops Marshmallow 48.3% 4 Quaker Oats Cap'n Crunch's OOPS! All Berries 46.9% 5 Quaker Oats Cap'n Crunch Original 44.4% 6 Quaker Oats Oh!s 44.4% 7 Kellogg's Smorz 43.3% 8 Kellogg's Apple Jacks 42.9% 9 Quaker Oats Cap'n Crunch's Crunch Berries 42.3% 10 Kellogg's Froot Loops Original 41.4%

Source: EWG analysis of nutrition labels for 84 children's cereals. Never been a parent? Sugar's cheaper than cereals. Those ones are always on sale for $2.99 and plain Corn Flakes are $8.99. The wholesome stuff's $10.99 and tastes like budgie gravel. The dog won't even eat it.

What's happened here is the likely the same thing I feel happened as an adult.
The price of veggies and meat skyrocketed while pop, cereal and pasta remain dirt cheap.
Thankfully I can afford to eat well but I bet anyone with kids is awfully tempted to save money at the grocery store. The government in Canada needs to stop subsidizing corn syrups and start rewarding vegetable and livestock farmers.
edit: I never meant that I was obese or anything of the sort but I used to be 45 pounds heavier before I switched my diet and put weights in my garage.

The computer/gaming systems and parents who don't involve themselves in their kids lives(physical activity and crap processed food.....picture everyone sitting around the boob tube, eating junk food) are two big reasons kids are getting fat. Schools aren't helping either with their minimizing the time time students can be physically active.

I don't think they taste like gravel. As for price, how much is your kid's health worth? Besides obesity and juvenile diabetes, that shit causes ADD

raisin Bran was a treat for me. Most of the time it was porridge...Red River, Cream of wheat, oatmeal or Sonny Boy.

Same here... and only one kind of breakfast cereal. The huge bag of puffed wheat was a staple in the house growing up! We had other cereals but it was always unsweetened. Corn flakes, Special K, etc., due to the fact that my mother and little brother were diabetic and dad didn't want any "sugary" cereals around to tempt them.

Just another thing. Looking back at old photos from school we only had one kid that would be considered overweight, and none that were obese. When I look at my son's class photos it scares me.
