It is incumbent upon the PM of a minority government to seek the support he needs, not for the opposition parties to simply support him out of fear of being called "uncooperative" or "obstructionist".
Hell one of the opposition parties can even bend over backwards to try and get things out of the ruling party and yet get shot down because what they proposed was untenable to the ruling PM.
The decision and hence the responsibility lies with the guy making that decision.
Unlike you, I don't find it acceptable for any politican, right wing or left wing to declare that they won't be supporting a budget months before they even read it.
That's not cooperation.
Ignatieff made a smart comment a few weeks ago saying that following this election if the Conservatives win, he'll wait for them to propose a budget and then he'd
read it.
That's what should be done.
Except for the issue that the other parties must actually believe and have confidence in the government to support such a party.
Over the last few years Harper has been hiding, obstructing and generally obfuscating as much as possible, not telling the truth about the F-35 fighter jets. When i brought that fact up months ago i was shot down hard by the partisan Cons around here. And guess what
I was right, the cost of the F-35 program which the Harperites proposed was completely out of touch with reality and now even the DND admits its now going above the sated cost.
Why would anyone cooperate with a government that refuse to give actual real costs to programs budget or no budget? As far as the opposition parties can tell it was total fiction.
