Government involvement hardly ever happens. What makes this any different? I don’t suppose there’s any protectionist bias behind this do you? I imagine your opinion might differ if GM had the same problem and was under the same scrutiny all of a sudden.

If General Motors covered up a major defect of their vehicles that resulted in the deaths of 40+ individuals, and they attempted to put the blame on driver error, and other bullshit statements, then I'd be just as hard pressed against them as well. The problem is, this isn't General Motors' problem, it's Toyota's.
See, the issue with Toyota is that they DONT KNOW what the problem is, and yet attempted to act like they had the issue resolved through recalling floor mats. So no, I don't see this as a protectionist measure to deal with dangerous vehicles.

I don’t recall say I was ever burned. That just sounds like you’re projecting.. I have stated that North American manufacturers have been allowed to produce crap for many more years than you’ve been around. It didn’t start to change until the imports came in a forced a change. They still have a long way to go though to catch up.
Why would I be projecting? I haven't been burned by either a domestic nor a foreign auto maker. I think Toyota fucked themselves royally on how they handled themselves, but that's their fault. I have no issues with Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, or any other Asian automakers, and I certainly don't judge them based on the actions of Toyota.
Also, considering that you still despise domestic automakers due to the poor quality of their vehicles from decades ago, and seemingly before imports started appearing on the market, when their quality has increased in recent years would show a bias that stretches past some objective view on the quality of US-based automakers.
