 You think I'm criticizing Duffy because of his weight? Nope. Same with Rob Ford. It's not their weight, it's their fuck-upperry that I'm calling out. If they were fat guys who weren't corrupt fuck-ups I wouldn't say a word about either lard ass' waist lines.

It's from all that 'Bad Management' from Stephen Harper.

It's made us more prone to fat jokes.

I guess the next thing we will hear on the news is "bank robber says he will give the money back. No charges to be laid."

Is an appointment to the Senate a sinecure for life? Can anybody be dynamited out of there?

They're in until 75. I believe if convicted of a serious crime they can be removed. Certainly looks like dementia wasn't enough to get somebody out of there.

Should be limited to a ten year term.....and the person should be living there not just be from there originally. There should be stiff financial penalties for Duffy if not actual criminal charges for defrauding the tax payers

More than that, we should find a way to make it a viable institution or get rid of it. Not sure how to do that. Not sure if under our system an elected Senate makes sense. What would be it's function relative to parliament? But having them appointed by the govt of the day certainly doesn't make sense to me.

In Duffy's case, the image of a politician lined up at the trough is a valid one.

In Theresa Spence's case, her so-called hunger strike made comments on her excess weight, and her failure to shed it, appropriate.

I agree. If the investigation shows that Duffy took money he wasn't supposed to, paying it back simply isn't enough. But, with politicians always taking care of themselves, I'll bet there's no such thing as a fine for defrauding taxpayers. And you can't even throw a senator out on his or her ear in the next election, because he/she doesn't have to face one.

If ever there was a government body that cost tons of money and did virtually nothing for it, it's the Senate. It doesn't need to be reformed; it needs to be abolished.

I think that the people who buy the line that it can be reformed are simply dupes of politicians who want to keep this place where they and their cronies can be put out to pasture with a fat paycheque, total security, and not only that, they get some status out of it to boot.

How would you change the Senate? I am NDP but am not sure just giving it the ax is a good idea. I would rather it keep it's limited power but be appointed by the PM from a list of people generated by the Premier of the individual Provinces. And limit them to a 5 or 6 year term. That way, coming from a list of people from the provinces, they will represent the politics of the present elected government of each region. The 5 or 6 year terms mean they change somewhat in tune with the election preferences of the regions they come from. That's my limited ideas, any more?

That's pretty good. Certainly better than what we have now.
